You mean like Liftshare? Don't reinvent the wheel, is my advice ... ;)

Absolutely perfect!! - I must refine my googling - that one had passed me by.

That was exactly the thing I had in mind - and I'm all for not reinventing the wheel :-)

I think the thing you have to remember is that a lot of residential areas will be free parking, and rather a lot of them are going to be narked when they come home and CAN'T PARK near their own homes because of tight-bottys who can't be bothered to take the bus / train / car-share or pay for a proper car park!!!!

(Have a guess what my road has a problem with??!!)

i'm sorry if other cars park in your road besides yourself! Maybe you should ask the council to make it permit parking (like my street) then you can use your car instead of taking the bus (because your worried you'll lose the space outside your house!)

Ah well, the difference is I knew it was out there somewhere ... just not sure if it was national or just a regional / local thing run by big companies who either don't want to or haven't been allowed to provide sufficient staff parking!

As I said - some people can't pakr NEAR their home, let alone outside it. I can't remember when I was able to park outside my house but I do remember lugging 6 bags of shopping almost half a mile home due to selfish shoppers taking up the surrounding area. The nearest supermarket is a good 3 miles away and the bus goes nowhere near here.
    ...and I walk to work.

A car is an unfortunate necessity.

As for the council -lots of letters, petitions etc.. but thats as far as it gets with them.
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]

We have on street parking, compared with similar streets in my area, we have very few parking spaces, because the rest of the population want to use our street as a motorway, and we are damned if we have to pull it outside my house to offload goods, often get the v sign and F remarks thrown at me. I never park permantly because I can never find anywhere and or swines knock your mirrors off, so I have to hire a private garage, and expense I can do without. I dont use our car much, and tbh I would be glad to get rid of it, its the wife that wants us to have it.

Too many cars on the roads these days and too few places to park, the problem lies squarely with cheap motoring costs, and yes there are cheap compared in real terms, whilst public transport costs have risen a lot.

Depending on where you live alot of Supermarkets allow 2 hours free parking. Other than that, if you set up a site for free parking, you would just cause more conjestion because everyone would know! As most councils make alot of money (we are talking millions) out of parking fees/tickets/permits, I would have thought as soon as you list a free parking area, then they would bring in charges. Which hasn't happened in my old city York (the local council has taken £7.5 million in parking related fees!). So, don't think a web site is going to help with free parking (maybe cheaper parking?).

Glad you mentioned York. I love York its one of the few cities that has decent transport with there park and ride, stress free trip into York without having to find a place then cost you an arm and a leg.
