Admin Fees Help!

Hi me & my fiance have been living in our private rented house now for 2 years. We rent through a letting company & when we first moved into the property they owned it but last month we received a letter saying that the property had been sold. The letter gave us details of the new landlord and said we didnt need to worry/take any action as it wouldnt affect us as they were still managing it. Today my fiance has received an email from the letting company saying our landlord is willing to renew our 6 month agreement at the same rent amount but we have to pay a £75 admin fee! I was just wondering before we send any emails back has anyone had any similar experiences or know what it is for? We are getting married in September and money is tight until then and once we are married we are hoping to move so we just wanted the lease to keep rolling as it has done for 2 years so we are not tied down to any contracts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

How keen are you to have the security of another six months fixed-term? If you're prepared to accept the risk of receiving two months notice then just tell the agency that you're happy to go onto a statutory periodic tenancy

Thanks for your reply, we do not really want to be tied down for 6 months as I said in my OP we are hoping to move (before Christmas) If we were to ask for a 3 month fixed term instead will we have to pay this admin fee each time or is this just because we have a new landlord? Thanks in advance just we havent come across this before in our 2 years in the house.

letting agencies have a tenancy to 'threat' tenants as such
if you are marrying in september.... the 6 month 'guarantee' for £75 might be worth it.
If you think you can manage a move and get married.... and spend more monies in getting a new credit check done with letting agencies at ridiculous rates of £200 sometimes! then take that risk

if you are planning to move 'before christmas'.... that is in .... 6 months!
so it will give you time and an overlap of a week or so to move

You tenancy is unaffected by the change of landlord.

As for renewing the fixed term, read:
