Hi, i was just wondering if anyone can help me. My partner is currently on Employment and Support allowance and so claims for me as well. My son is starting full time school in september and there is a possibility that i may be in line for a job at the school (playground assistant type job) and so this will only be a couple of hours a day, i imagine, does anyone know how this will affect things? I want to go out to work but i need to fit this in around my son and a job at the school seemed like the best solution as my partner is sometimes too ill to even take him round the corner to the school. I just wanted to know how working around 10 hours a week will affect us, will we get reduced housing benefit etc? We already struggle financially and i am really stressed out with worry! Thanks in advance

You can get childcare help, there is nothing stopping you working more hours to be eligible for tax credits and using childcare.0

There is nothing to prevent you from working - but you only get to keep £10 of your net income per week. Anything above that would be taken off his ESA as he is on Income related ESA £1 4 £1. So you'd gain a tenner.0

Correct - if the OPs husband is on income-related ESA.
If they are on contributions based, with a income-related top-up, only this portion would be affected by the OP returning to work.
In rough figures, the 'couples element' is 50 quid/week - so that would come off first - less the disregard.
Earning £100 - ESA reduced by £40. Earn £200 - ESA still reduced by 40.0
