Ryanair Baggage

My daughter has just phone me from Stanstead, she forgot to click on hold baggage when booking her holiday, She has just been charged £260.00 for 2 bags one way!! She will have to book return baggage from the resort. I wish to complain as I think this is extortion. Any thoughts

Sorry to hear that your daughter got caught out like this, however l thought it was common knowledge these days about these outrageous costs by Ryanair, it has certainly been debated within the media plenty of times.

Good job she remained composed and didn't cry, otherwise they would have whacked on the 'emotional baggage' charge also.

I take it the flight is either to the Canaries or Greece?
Tell her to make sure she books the return trip for the bags on-line - via the 'Manage my Booking' section in good time, it should cost her £80 for the return leg that way.
Also make sure she's printed her boarding cards

Not much point complaining to RA TBH, they wont listen

Ryanair seem cheap until the first time you hit a problem - then you vow never to deal with them ever again...when they screw you over, the really screw you over.

Fair do's, your daughter should have read the site properly when making bookings, but maybe next time she'll use a 'full-service' airline - the 'low-cost' ones are 'low-cost', not necessarily 'low-price'...

What you feel is or isn't a reasonable price is quite irrelevant. The charge is made very clear in the T&C so there's nothing to complain about. Also, your daughter did not "forget" to click hold luggage as it's impossible to make a booking without choosing how many bags to check in.

So what full service airline will that be to fly to the med? Thomsons, easyjet, thomas cook, jet2, monarch and even BA on some routes now ,hold baggage is an "extra"
  • Slightly controversial, but I think your daughter shouldn't be flying at all if she isn't smart enough to notice the large baggage options boxes, and the message warning you you've booked no baggage when you click through.

Just as a comparison, to send a suitcase sized package (15kg in a 77x49x32cm package) from London to Spain or Greece costs £149 per package with a 24 hour turnaround.

Ryanair offering to transport the same to the Canaries, on the same day, for £19 less doesn't seem so bad.

    "Slightly controversial " ??
Nothing like a bit of sad parenting is there - surely that quote wins the "Im holier than thou" award of the day
What a bloody cheek, considering the OP asked a reasonable question.:T
