  • I'm 23, I've been lurking for God knows how long - my friends and family find it quite odd that I use MSE Forums as a whole as my 'go to' website for nearly everything

I'm 108.............well, it's how I feel tonight.:( I'm battered and bruised after a sporting encounter which didn't end well for me earlier this evening.:(

I don't post often in 'Old Style' but I read a lot.

Nile I thought you were 17 too, have a nice hot bath and hope the bruising isn't too bad in the morning.

I just turned 38  how did that happen???

My mum was OS when my brother and I were small. She only worked at weekends until I was 7 or 8 and my dad was on an apprenticeship wage, so we needed to be frugal.

Then money significantly improved, as dad got a real wage and mum started more hours too. At this point the rules relaxed somewhat and more time-saving than money-saving ideas were put to use...

I'm a mixture of both now - with two little ones of my own plus working, I need all the hours I can get, but with just the one income, I need to keep an eye on our spends.

I'm 29 in my head and 54 in the mirror! Time kind of stopped when I had my first baby; now he's left home, the others are thinking about it and I have (a little) time to stop & think again now.

Wish I'd know at 19, say, that most of the dull grey middle-aged people pottering about were only in their teens or twenties inside! Then I might have listened a bit more & not got into half the muddles I did get into. Who you are doesn't really change; hopefully you learn a few more tips & tricks, and sadly the wrapping gets a bit wrinkly, but most of my friends from backalong (Dorset word) are still as madcap & fun, given half a chance, as they were back then.
