Vanquis Gold - issues

Hi

I wondered if anyone esle has come accross this issue. I have had a Vanquis card since Jan 2012, started at £250 and as of 2 Months ago the limit is now £2250. I pay the full balance by DD every Month, usually having a statement balance of around £600/£900. I have had no problems with Vanquis up until 2 months ago; before this time I was actually singing their praises. Then I was "upgraded" and the problems began. Last Month I tried to make a £400 payment with my card, this was flagged up as potential fruad and my card was cancelled. They said it was due to the large amount, but I have made previous transactions of this type. Anyway, because I was going to use the card for spending I ended up having transfer money to my account. I realise this is my own fault for relying on the card but I have found that this way (previously) I avoid paying any interest. This Month my DD of £1100 was paid to Vanquis as per the norm. I then check my account today and the money is not available. I have called Vanquis, who have informed me that due to the large amount, their process is to put it in holding for 5 working days.

Has anyone heard this before? It's obviously very inconvienient, but also annoying as it hasn't happened before.

I have changed the DD to minimum and will transfer the remaining payments from now on. I am now going to be late paying my daughter's nursery fees. Won't be making that mistake again!!!

Not sure what the problem is as I have like you been upgraded a few months ago and have had no problems, the gold card looks very nice and is identical to my old card bar the design, same number, security code etc. I dont pay by DD but by vanquis online and direct payments, payments always clear within a couple of days.

Might be worth making a formal complaint in writing and see what comes of that.

Might just be coincidence that these securtity checks just seem to be coming all at once.

It could well be just a coincidence, as I have been really happy with them up until now. There have never been any issuew whith my DD in the past.

Also - I don't actually have the gold card, just the status. I had a new card sent just before my limit increase took place (from £1250 - £2250 so that could be why).

I had a similar thing with Tesco once.

Because I needed to spend more than my credit limit one month I spent up to the limit, paid it off, then spent more and paid it off. That latter point is where I hit the buffers - certainly Tesco's policy is that if you repay any amount exceeding your credit limit in any given statement period, then the difference is held up for five working days - something to do with security they said.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

Hmmm maybe it's somehting like that then? I have paid a DD of £1250 once before and that was available the next day. If it is the new policy then fine, but I'm more annoyed that I wasn't aware.

Oh well - a lesson learned for the future I suppose. I'm looking at the bright side now; it will certainly lmit my spending for 5 days!!:)
