Whether or not she gets any benefits, your partner needs to sign on so that her National Insurance contributions are kept up to date!
I don't think it matters who she works for, as long as she can provide a payslip....best to check with the benefits office though0 -
Hi
I was in a similar situation when I fell pregnant with my DD - I'd just relocated for OHs job and found myself between jobs...I decided that I didn't want to go to interviews for a job that I would be giving up in a few months time (it didn't seem fair on potential employers!). I needed 8 weeks work to qualify for Maternity Allowance, so I joined a temping agency which gave me enough work.
The best thing (from my point of view anyway!) was that once I'd gained enough weeks, I could stop working and put my energy into getting the house sorted before baby was born.
You're right, the rules are quite difficult to get your head around, but I think what you're saying is correct that as long as your partner earns above the threshold for 13 weeks out of the 26, then it doesn't matter how many days per week she works. There's some useful information here (sorry if you've already got this, not teaching you to suck eggs!!)
As far as I'm aware, it doesn't matter where she works, as long as she makes her Tax/NI contributions.
Hope this helps, and good luck with the baby!

had to go and get a job sharpish before I showed and became unemployable!
Luckily I got a new job within a couple of weeks not a great one and didnt tell them I was pregnant in the interview.
Told them just before my 20 week scan and told them how surprised I was etc etc.
I did feel really bad but at the end of the day I had to look out for me and how to pay the mortgage / bills.
Yup did the same thing myself, didn't like lying but the alternative was moving back in with my parents!!:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0
