Goats and poultry are definately livestock and should be registered as such.

Agreed about goats. You don't need to register poultry if you have less than 50birds.

Agreed, but the burial rules specify poultry as being one of the banned species. I suspect this is more for commercal breeder who may have 100's to dispose of in one go, but on the legislation I read, it didn't qualify how may, just said "Poultry"!

Yes... today's update is that the two ponies that I was not aware of  and donkeys x2 now have a lovely field to play in. They moved last week.

Tenant has phoned to explain his donkeys were being bullied by some cows :( ( and that is why he panicked & put them in the garden)

Hopefully all is now well & I just have a pig-mi goat in my garden!
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)

I sympathise. Donkey abuse is a horrendous and widespread problem. For many donkeys, if it continues over a protracted period of time, it can have lasting effects. This should not be discounted as one of those "it doesn't happen in our neighbourhood' problems - it can happen to donkeys anywhere, even the most well-to-do fields.

Bullying of this kind often starts with apparantly harmless teasing, but can quickly escalate, and where two or more ponies are involved it can be really intimidating, especially to an insecure or vulnerable donkey.

It is not unknown for donkeys to self-harm - for example deliberately eating nettles. And in one extreme case, a donkey was forced to make its escape into a distant wood where it compulsively put things into, and then removed them from, a 'useful pot'. It was eventually rescued by a small boy, although the child himself had a lifetime of misery and issues as a result of his experience in the wood.

I had to supply my details to DEFRA last year when i bought 4 hens.

    No you didn't.

    From Gov UK web site:

    Who has to register?

You must register if you own - or are responsible for - a poultry premises with 50 or more birds. This applies even if your premises are only stocked for part of the year. Premises with fewer than 50 birds do not need to register, but Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) encourages keepers to do so voluntarily.
You must register if you have 50 or more birds in total. They do not have to be all of the same species.

You may have been advised to register.

Personally, I feel that the less DEFRA knows about me, the better! :)
