Just wondered if anyone knew if companies like primark/argos/homebase/betting jobs/tescos/asda/sainsbury and similar run dbs/crb checks ?
My friend has recently been given a police caution and is worried he will not be able to get a job due to his caution.

I believe the basic and standard disclosures do not show cautions - only the enhanced one (eg fo working with children) does.
Any company which asks for a DBS must have a policy on employing people with records - it should not just be an automatic refusal of the job if anything at all comes up.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

No, retail employers shouldn't run a DBS check.

I used to work for one of the named retailers as a manager and can confirm that particular firm did not run DBS checks on employees0

It is unlawful for employers to do this under the rehabilitation of offenders act. It is only selected occupations that are excepted from the rehabilitation of offenders act.

Only 1 I know is in bold, I would imagine all the others are the same, not sure about betting shops though.
I work for a major betting shop. We don't CRB/DBS check. However we do ask people to declare convictions (not sure about cautions) and if someone lies on their application form and are later found out, they are sacked.0 -

There is the added criminal charge of trying to gain a percuniary advantage which normally ends in a prison sentence as the courts take an extremely dim view of it0
