Bag stolen - insurance?

Hi,
I'm in Spain at the moment and my handbag was stolen from my mum's car 2 days ago. I got the police report and invoices for replacing the car's lock, home keys and documentation. Obviously all invoices are in spanish. My mobile and a gift card with 100€ on it were also stolen.
Can I claim these items to my travel insurance? I've never made a claim in my life and I'm not sure what type of proof they are going to ask for.
I just want to make sure I take everything I need back with me to the UK..
Thanks

Without seeing the policy details, it's impossible for anyone to give a definitive answer.
Many, but not all policies will cover personal items taken from locked vehicles but there is sometimes a clause stating that the stolen items must have been out of sight.
If they do pay out, you may not get reimbursed for the €100 giftcard as items such as this are often classed as cash and some policies don't cover cash.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
The handbag was well hidden, I know realise the burglars saw me hide it in the boot and then they forced the car, they only took the handbag.
I'll be happy if I can get some money for replacing the locks and my mobile...0 -
I rang the insurance and didn't get a single penny.. as usual having a travel insurance is completely useless!0

Have you checked if your home contents policy covers it?0

Could you not have claimed on your mums insurance seeing as it was her car or as opinions4u says, check your home contents.
Did your travel insurance say why they wouldn't pay. If you didn't insure it within your cover or your exces is more than the bag etc, then you cant blame them to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
My mum's insurance does not cover goods stolen from vehicles, only if she's mugged.
My travel insurance did not pay because of technicalities.. mobile is not covered (some difference between valuables and personal possesions), gift cards are not covered, neither are locks replacemens (which has been the biggest expense, home and car).0 -
The only thing that might have been covered was cash, but I only had about 10€ with me which I didn't bother mentioning on the police report as it was the least of my worries/expenses...0

This is not strictly true.
You need travel insurance with the right cover.0
