Am veering towards Lanzarote or Gran Canaria, not sure on which though, weather wise is Gran Canaria less windy.....or are they pretty similar, looking for fairly lively, 13 year old plus myself, not hilly if possible and a bit of culture! Any recommendations please.

I would say there is much more of interest in Lanzarote.
You can spend most of a week doing the Manrique ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A9sar_Manrique ) sites and a trip to Timanfaya ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timanfaya_National_Park ).
It won't be cheap at half term but would be my choice from the two.
I like the Playa Blanca resort but that is a personal taste.0 -
