! I can set up a roast dinner in about 15 minutes for 10-14 people!!
Sorry to digress it takes me ages to make dinner, peeling, chopping, whisking etc. I work with a girl who reckons her Sunday lunch takes half hour from scratch seriously give me some tips please because I spend longer making it than eating it :rotfl:
Thanks

I peel and chop and throw in different pans.. maybe 4 or 5 different veggies (carrots, broccoli, cabbage, peas and an onion for gravy usually) and a lump of meat which is wrapped in foil and put in the oven or simply unwrapped and thrown in the slowcooker (my favourite lazy method!) I get everything out and peel straight into the compost caddy and veggies put in relevant pans and covered with water.
It takes me longer to make Yorkshire puddings than it does to prep the veg!
I did have OH delegated to potato peeling but he was so slow I wanted to peel him, I'd have done everything else including the Yorkshires by the time he was halfway through the potato peeling!.. I just do it myself and boss him to slice meat and mash cooked potatoes now.
I have been prepping veg since I was about 5 or 6 so plenty of practice.. I do feel a very sharp knife and a decent peeler are of utmost importance though.. it makes a massive difference!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I go because
a. I don't trust them to look after my girls properly if I'm not there.. I like to keep an eye on their drinking and various drunken states.
b. because if I don't go then they wouldn't ever see OH or the girls.. and for the once every 4-6 weeks we go I can manage to be civil and not strangle anyone for that 48 hours.. I just come and have massive rants on here!! lolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

It certainly takes me longer than fifteen minutes, Thirty minutes too, all in. Roasts are 't complicated or too demanding but there is a fair amount of prepress, I'd say a good twenty minutes worth, and then a bit of fading with the shorter cook stuff, getting meat out to rest etc, and making gravy.
I don't begrudge the time, and I do think a roast is a very easy option for something impressive and easily turned into a three or four course meal, but I don't think it's a great domestic failing for it to be taking more than half an hour.
Maybe yours is better timed or prepped or nicer?

I'm seriously impressed. I'm imagining the scale you must do it on too.
. I'm not slow, but peeling spuds for your team would be like entertaining every meal time I imagine.

It is quite normal for me.. I really struggle when I only have 4 or 5 to cook for.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Got my own back..........
They said we'd meet at 1pm. We were there at 12:15pm, did all the fun stuff on our own. They actually showed up in drinks and drabs between 1:45pm and 2:30pm and we naffed off at 3:30pm. We're home already and they missed all the fun.

I can have a stuffed loin of pork for up to 12 plus veggie alternative and accompaniments prepped in less than 20 minutes, and on the table in about an hour and a half.

Oh my I am impressed my kitchen looks like a hurricane blew through it when I cook an extended family dinner for 10 - 12 people.
I'm with lostinrates I put the meat in and mix the yorkshires, then it takes me a while to prep the veg, although it does all go straight in to a compost bag and in the pans or steamer. Then I'm basting the meat, making the gravy and trying to get it out all at the same time
pigpen I think you must be so well practiced and organised hats off to you :T
I'm going to start timing myself :rotfl:The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0
