well, just to do a letter, like I used to do with my old windows xp professional edition.
I used to go to the start menu, and 'open office document' or 'new document' was an option.
Is is the same with this vista thing, or not?
I am confused as I am not techhie at all, and when it looks so different, it just throws me completely. I am a visual person, so need things to look similar if possible!:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -
Those 2 icons you're talking about are from Microsoft Office. Is Microsoft Office installed on your new Dell?Debts to tackle:

Microsoft Works is installed, but apart from that, its just the Vista thing. Does that contain something that I can use like Windows:hello:  please play nicely children !0

Works has got a word processor/spreadsheet etc. They'll be in the start menu. You can just start typing 'works' in the search box at the bottom of the Vista menu and they'll pop up above.Debts to tackle:

Thanks a lot, I may call on you again sometime!

I had the same problem:rolleyes: - click on Works launcher (in Start menu) then at the top there is "templates", click on that, then there is an icon for new documents! This is probably a very convoluted way of getting there, but it works (no pun intended, lol!) for me:D[0
