This is still confusing. If you indeed have a joint account, and live at the same address, you were sent at least 2 cards for that account, and probably a cheque book, too. You might also get paper statements, or you have paperless statements, in which case you would check the account online. Why did you never notice that the account numbers weren't the same?

As I was expecting lloyds to open just a joint account, and I only received one cash card and one chequebook there was no suggestion that anything was amiss.
So your boyfriend doesn't have a card for the joint account?

I don't read my boyfriends bank statements, so I was never going to realise that we had different account numbers.

We are not talking about your boyfriend's bank statements - - we are talking about a joint account, so any statements are yours just as much as his.

@innovate why do you assume I don't live with my OH? We have been living together for nearly 7 years!!!
It was the only logical explanation for you not having a card and cheque book for the joint account. Either that, or you don't actually have a joint account.

OH received bank cards and cheque book for the joint account. I haven't checked if his cards and chequebook say both our names on it. But we receive paper statements in our joint names for the joint account. As he pretty much manages the bills going in and out that account, I only ever looked at the statements to see how much money we had in there. I was never sent statements for the mystery sole account!!!

I agree it's confusing, and I just don't understand how this can happen, which is my complaint to begin with!

Where and how did the original monies get into the joint account?

Did you not notice when you wrote out the cheque to the solicitors that ONLY your name was on the cheque book?
Did you not think this was strange?

Some banks can issue sole cheque books on joint accounts or one in joint names, leave the OP alone. Not everyone on here works in banking.

The OP has explained what she thought was her joint account, it's an easy enough error to make, even if she was aware she had two accounts. The fact is the whole incident is something that should be sorted realitively easily in my opinion yet LTSB seem to be fannying about.

Right, checked my boyfriends cheque book and cashcard. Both are issued in just his name... but it is DEFINITELY a joint account - as he has kept the front slip on the chequebook (the one which you tear off when you get a new chequebook) and it says both our names on it.

    @grumbler.

I didn't receive the real joint account card and cheque book, I only received the mystery account card and cheque book. I believed what I was sent was for our joint account and at the time I believed everything was OK.

I used the card for the mystery sole account thinking it would be the card linked to the joint account which we actually opened. Obviously because I didn't have money in the mystery account my card was declined several times. As I knew we had plenty of money in the joint account I just thought I must have remembered my pin wrongly or something, and didn't bother trying to use the account again. My boyfriend was able to use the account ok... so I just left it at that.

Does the debit card you have show the same sort code and account number as your boyfriend's card, and as the cheque book your boyfriend has? Are the account numbers the same as on the statement for your joint account?

No, they are for different accounts- his is for the joint account, and mine is for the mystery account.

His cards match the joint account statements. I was not sent a card or chequebook for the joint account...This is the error of LTSB, along with opening an account I didn't open. Not closing the account when asked, not sending the right cards/chequebook when asked. Not getting back to me when promised. Not giving us the £50 compensation we were told we were getting.

You also need to make sure that Lloyds remove any negative information they may have sent to the credit reference agencies..
Once they have issued the letter in an attempt to settle the complaint if it is not resolved to your satisfaction take it to the Ombudsman Service.
