Red Eye

I was looking at a particular car today and came across a golf tdi red eye.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the red eye stands for.

I think it is referring to the letter "i" on the rear model designation letters.

On my old passat for instance, it worked like this.
All normal silver TDI = 100 bhp
Red I in TDI = 130 bhp
Red D and I in the badge = 150 bhp
All red lettering meant something even more powerful.

I may have got the bhp levels mixed up and it will be different for the Golf but it is how you could determine the BHP of the engine simply by looking at the badge.

I beg to differ. They did a 2.5 V6 TDI = 150bhp.
