Able to hold shares at 16?

My Grandfather died a year ago and he left me some money which the trustees (my dad and uncles) invested in RBS shares.
I've read somewhere that it is possible for 16 year olds to hold shares from companies registered in Scotland from the age of 16, but is it different because they were bought with a legacy from a will in England?
I don't want to sell them or anything, it will just make dividends easier and mean that we won't have to send any paperwork around the country for 3 signatures.
Thank you.
