Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you know an Old Style way of combatting dust mites. My poor dog has developed an allergy for them, despite me hoovering virtually every day.
I am going to post on freecycle to see if I can get hold of a couple of anti dust mite sheets, but someone told me u can put things in the freezer (!?!) to help stop them
Any ideas?
Thanks

I think the recommendations are to open windows, air bedding as dust mites like damp warm conditions. Hoover sofas as well as mattresses (depending on what rooms he's allowed in).
Dust mite sheets/mattress and pillow covers help lots (for me anyway!!!). And I seem to remember that feather cushions etc can have lots more dust mites in them too so try and avoid those, or put them away for a while.
They do also recommend for children that soft toys can be put in a bag and frozen. Other bedding etc should be washed above 40 degrees if possible to kill off the mites and then dried as soon as possible (not left damp as they will breed again).
Wash all curtains and cushions if possible, and leather sofas, laminate floors or short pile carpet is meant to be better.
Most of the advice is for people but sure parts of it applies to the dogworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Thanks. The vet said not to let him upstairs as that's where there are more dust mites than anywhere else. He only goes on one sofa, his bed, and the rug in the living room.
I'll make sure to hoover the sofa every day as well, not enough room in the freezer for it tho!'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
Lots of ideas aimed at kids here http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/dispatches/how+to+beat+your+kids+asthma/158200 but I'm sure the principle is the same.:DI have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

The old remedy I was told is to put things out in the hot sun. This is the time to hang out all rugs blankets mats etc and get out the old "carpet beater". Hot sun kills the blighters.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

Some anti house dust mite sprays use Permethrin(sp) -you'll recognise the name from flea sprays - so by using a household flea spray on his bedding, carpets etc you will also be removing the housedust mite! the same applies to your darling pet too... Flea sprays & powders are much cheaper than specialist housedust mite treatments & I guess you are spending out on them anyway.....
By the same standards I guess any natural flea repellants would repell housedust mite too?
Or if you want something more natural, i found this after typing 'housedustmite spray' into Google http://www.allergymatters.com/acatalog/PDP_PPALX002.htmlI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0
