I gave mine to a local cancer charity shop, had worn it twice, once at my wedding in NYC, and again when I got home for my "do".0

I'm on the fence. It seems hard to justify keeping a dress I will never wear again. I do have fond feelings for it but it has served it's purpose and I will always have the memories and photos. To be totally honest I have mixed feelings about my wedding day. It's hard to explain. I am delighted to be married to DH but I do feel like I maybe rushed into the actual wedding when we weren't financially prepared, some of our plans didn't come together, some important family members couldn't be there and it wasn't as 'perfect' as I'd expected, although my expectations were probably unrealistic. It wasn't a disaster but I definitely don't have nostalgia and want to regularly view lots of reminders like the dress.
At the moment the dress is just stuck in a box in my wardrobe, which seems like a waste. I like the idea of saving it for my future daughter but who knows if I will even have one and in decades to come styles will certainly have changed! I also like the idea of selling it on so it can become a special part of another bride's day and the money could help us achieve some of our dreams, like being debt free or starting our own business.
OTOH, second hand wedding dresses don't seem to sell for very much on eBay and I might regret letting it go if I don't get a good price. I've decided the first step is having a look at it, giving it a good wash and hanging it up in a proper garment bag then seeing how I feel about selling it.
So basically thanks for starting this thread so I can get ideas because I'm not sure either!0 -
I was going to sell mine. We were hoping for £500 for what was a £1200 dress. However, we had no interest at that price and think that people are taking the mickey for wanting to pay less than that for what is an incredibly beautiful dress with tons of beaded detailing. We were even going to include the matching shoes for free but people still weren't interested. If people are going to be so cheapskatey then we'd rather keep it - it's not that we were ever expecting to even get half the RRP back but to be offering it for less than that and still not want it...Well, they don't know value for money when they see it is all I can say
If you are going to sell it, then it has to be at a price that you are happy with, in my opinion

I'm still undecided, and I think it will come down to whether or not I get it made for me. Long story short, my dad's cousin made my sister's wedding dresses and I'd like her to make mine if possible, but for various reasons she may not be able to and so I might end up buying my dress. If she makes it then I'll probably keep it at my parents' house, as I don't have the space here and my sisters' dresses are there too, but if I buy one I'll probably sell it on because I'm not sure I'll have that same sense of personal attachment about it. Although I'm prepared to be proved totally wrong on that!
I'm planning to keep my shoes and any jewellery I buy for the wedding, and if I get silk flowers as I'm hoping to I'll probably keep my bouquet as well. And of course there's the photos as well, so if I do sell my dress I'll have plenty of other reminders of the day."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
