I have a garmin i3 and need to download maps of France for a holiday this Summer. Does anyone know: What capacity micro sd card would I need to buy to fit on the whole of France (maps are from Garmin CityNavigator Europe v9)? Are all sd card brands pretty much the same for this type of use? What is the difference between transflash and non-transflash? Thanks in advance!

I think you would easily fit it on to a 2GB micro SD. I downloaded Southern Spain on to my Nokia N95 & it was only around 80mb. You can get a cheap 2GB card from Play.com for £14.99 delivered:
