any tv techies about?

I have a pacific 7017 widescreen tv a bought from asda just over a year ago, its been fine till today and now when the power is turned the red light just flashes and the tv is making a sort of ticking sound each time the light flashes. Any ideas welcome please chaps.

I have called asda and they are not interested, as its over a year, I still have the reciept but its useless now..

Why? Just because it's over a year old is meaningless. The sale of goods act allows you to claim up to six years after purchase for what is deemed a "reasonable" time. One year certainly isn't reasonable. Last time we had a problem with the tv like that it was a control chip that needed replacing. Stand your ground with Asda. You've got the law on your side.

Go to http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk and look up the advice for consumers. Best to be prepared. I think a lot of retailers fob you off because they rely on consumers not knowing their rights.
I think in your case ASDA are relying also purely on the manufacturer's warranty and therefore ASDA won't immediately be out of pocket as for a repair themselves they'll probably have to contract it out etc. But as you bought it from ASDA your contract is with them, no matter what guarantees the manufacturer offer and so it is the retailer's (ASDA) responsibility to repair or replace.
