Depends what you mean by "best". In terms of easiest to get, vanquis are probably the leader there, but they sell your details to all and sundry so beware. There are other providers that are a lot more reputable, but some of them are actually quite hard to get for credit builders, they are aqua and barclaycard initial. Capital one are also a pain in the !!!! if you're not on the electoral roll, and I hear they tend not to like you unless you own your own home.
So if you're desperate to start building a credit history, and you don't mind getting cold calls and spam emails, cut the chase and go with vanquis. Otherwise, try the other companies I mentioned, but be prepared for rejection.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
I've recently just applied for my first ever credit card with Capital One and was approved. I don't own my own home, I'm a student with a part time job and on the electoral roll. Before Capital One I considered Aqua, but the APR % I was offered was just short of 50% (though this doesn't really affect me since I plan to pay off every month in full), but Capital One has offered me just over 30%, so am happy with that.'Ello!0

Just over 30% or just under 35%.0 -

I feel quite honoured to get a Capital One card with 14% APR! In fact it is the lowest APR card that I have.0 -
I am looking to get a mortgage with my partner and would like to build up my credit score as i currently dont have one, heard my own bank credit cards arent the greatest to go with.0

Applying for your own bank's credit card is generally advised as the best place to start. They can see how you manage your accounts, making up for your lack of credit record.
I would rather have a credit card issued by a mainstream lender (albeit with record for bad customer service) than a potentially high APR subprime card.0
