PPI Minefield

Hi All,

Like everybody else I've been hounded with calls from various companies in relation to PPI claims. Obviously everybody gets these calls but having had a number of CC, loans and mortgages over the years I thought it might be worth exploring.

The problem I face is that I have no other details other than those contained in my Experian report, so no account numbers just companies that I had CC's or loans with.

i have tried researching the net and various forums but seem to be getting confused but they seem to deal with those who know more details.

Can anyone tell me if my initial action will be writing to the various companies to ascertain if I ever paid PPI and will they be able to supply a "truthful" answer with just my personnel details and account numbers ?

I do remember being asked about various insurances when taking out credit but have always stated it wasn't needed but I am aware that various companies added it anway.

many thanks in advance for your help

All you have to do is either ring them or write to them initially and they will tell you.

You don't just get it back because you paid it though and if there was a claim for you you would have to provide evidence to support that.

If they have no records though and you don't either then its a losing battle.

    Nothing stopping you from asking.

Thanks McKneff......I guess the only claim I would have would be if it was paid without my knowledge. I have never knowingly agreed to any insurance type payments

Despite what you may have heard from claims companies, PPI was not randomly added to credit card and loan accounts without the knowledge and permission of customers. For credit cards the PPI would have shown as a separate line on every monthly statement where the account had an outstanding balance. For loans the PPI was itemised in the agreement which the customer signed.

If you have PPI and don't know it, then you've either forgotten or did not read the documentation you signed.

That makes sense Money, can't ever recall seeing extra payments and I'm sure I would have.

Now if only these pesky PPI firms would stop ringing me all the time

You can phone and ask but if they say your accounts are too old or closed, then you will have to send a SAR and £10 to each company to see what paperwork there is left, and whether any f that details PPI on it.
