Hello,
Is there anyone on here with any insurnce background regarding a claim i have made on my house.
I need to write a letter back disagreeing with there claims, but i dont know how to structure it and need some pointers please.
Any help would be great and appreaciated as always
Quick over view.
Under my stairs the floor has sunk by around 3 - 4 inches. The hall way floor is fine. I have also noticed that the sunken area runs into the kitchen as well, but no where near as bad as the whole area under the stairs.
The wall is very damp where the sunken floor is.
The exterior wall is sound no cracks or problems, there are no trees or plants growing there either.
I contacted the insurance provider, who did a prelim report, then sent out a drainage expert who checked the front rainwater drain and rear drainage. he also dug up one area of floor slab outside to see if there was a water pipe.
Then another comapny came in and dug a bore hole inside where that sunken floor was and took a soil sample and sent it off.
The reults cam back and said there was water at front of property and at rear. Which has just been repaired by drainmasters.
There was water also present in the inside of building where the damage was, but they said there was not a water supply going anywhere near damge and have said that the damage is caused by poorly compacted fill material.
They have said they will not pay out as my policy doesnt cover the settlement of ground floor slab due to poor construction
The house was built in the 1940's so how can this be a faulty build after all this time?
they have not even explained why it has happened, yet admitted there is water down there. could this have come from the problems with drainage from the front and rear of building, considering the damage is smack bang between each drainage problem?
regards
Louis
