Weekend in London

My husband and I are planning a weekend in London at beginning of August. Flights and accommodation booked, as well as a show, but looking at other attractions, it looks like it will be a very, very expensive weekend!

Are there any vouchers books or offers we should be looking out for to minimise costs? We want to do the normal touristy things and will be there form Friday morning to Sunday evening.

Thank you!

If you buy a daily travelcard from a train station (rather than a tube station) it will have the British rail logo on it that will make it eligible for the 2for 1 rail offers for various attractions. print off vouchers from the site below.

The easiest way to travel is to get a daily travelcard as you get unlimited travel on the underground trains, buses and London overground. On the Friday you would need to purchase the TC after 9.30am to get cheaper off peak rates (Sat and Sunday are off peak all day). Also as there is so much to do, I would plan what you want to do and your tube journeys in advance (using the Journey planner).

The Natural History and Science Museums are beside each other and are free entry. It is about a 20 minute walk from there to Kensington Gardens which has the Albert memorial, Palace and you can walk from there into Hyde park which has a boating Lake, lido etc.

I would also keep an eye on the group buying sites such as Groupon, Bespoke, Wowcher as they often have offers for London restaurants and events. The Bespoke Starbucks offer where you buy a £10 voucher for £5 is still on and there are lots of Starbucks in London.

If you want pictures beside the mounted Queens Guard, you could go to to whitehall (which is a few minutes walk from Trafalgar Square)

What other attractions in particular were you thinking of ?
So much is free - Buckingham Palace for changing of the Guards, Trafalgar Square, The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Science Museum, V&A Museum, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Greenwich Park, walk along the river to view sights such as the houses of Parliament, St Pauls, Tower of London, tower Bridge etc etc......

In the limited amount of time you have, there is so much to do and unless there is anything in particular you desperately want to visit I'd say you need not have to pay much apart from the travel. The London eye is probably worth doing, although you are unlikely to get any discounts in August. I'd also recommend the Thames Clipper River roamer tickets (£15, but 2-4-1 with the offer susancs mentions above) to get unlimited travel up and down the river for the day.

If you want a cheap way to get a flavour of the Tower and have a free evening, you can apply for free tickets to see them locking it up for the night here, although you may have left it a little late

The 2 for 1 tickets that you can use if you have a train ticket are brilliant. We have used those loads.

The National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square is free and well worth taking time to look around. Same goes for the British Museum.

Also take a look at TopTable for restaurants. We ate at a beautiful one and paid half the price.

The London museums are incredible, some of the world's best, depends what you're interested in. I just LOVE the V&A - you can easily spend half a day in there just discovering the building, it is HUGE. And free.

one of my absolute favourite things to do in London is go to Borough Market, buy lots of yummy things for a picnic, jump on a boat down to Greenwich and spend time down there mooching about.

Webahead2 - I take it you're not suggesting that the OP spends the night in Blackpool, London? Spammer.

Strange isn't it, and if the hotel they are advertising is as inept as the way they advertise it then it's not worth visiting.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Why quote the post so that when it is reported and removed as the spam it obviously is, a copy of it remains on the board ?
