Virgin took my money

Virgin was my ISP but in January I swapped to another ISP. They have kept taking payments from my account (I didn't notice until the 3rd month) at £24.99. There is no way of getting hold of them to get my money back. Their customer services by email said they can't deal with it and gave me two phone numbers, neither of which work.
They are quick enough to take your money... but contacting them is virtually impossible.

If you paid by direct debit, notify your bank that Virgin has taken unauthorised DD's. They will refund your account and reclaim the money from Virgin.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

It wasn't direct debit but they were taking monthly payments. My bank suggested I send them a letter with copy of the statements where the wrong payments have been made, they said it's a long process and that I'd be better contacting Virgin! I assured them that I'd already tried that and their way would probably be quicker as I can't get hold of Virgin!

I'm confused, how did they take the payments if it wasn't DD or standing order.........................did you have a DD set up but cancelled and they kept getting money after that?Fran wrote:It wasn't direct debit but they were taking monthly payments. It was probably by debit card, you give them your debit card number and then monthly they take that amount off your card. I had a similar thing with freeserve and will not now set up thiese sorts of transactions i always state DD only. You are at least a little bit protected then.
Sorry I couldnt be of more help Fran hope you get your money back soon hun xxxxxxx0 -

I've thanked you for this post but had to comment, I'm really grateful for this information, I can finally see away of getting my money back now. :T
Fran, I'm in a similar situation to you, until I read LazyDaisy's post i felt i'd never get my money back.
I was with onetel for my telephone calls and they offered me a special offer to combine broadband last year. I had nothing but problems from the off and my broadband was never switched on by them, several emails and telephone calls to them later i finally managed to get hold of someone who told me they had not recieved any request for this, although they had charged me 3 months connection to broadband at £29.99 each.
Dozens of letters, emails and calls later I finally got them to credit the charges back to my account but will they release the money back into my bank account or send me a cheque. NO, they fobbed me off with one excuse after another about they cant do this and they cant do that, I am so pee'd off with it. For the last 2 months they have just been completely ignoring my emails and letters, every time i call them to ask for a refund my call is disconnected
Sorry I cant offer you any help Fran
but i really feel for ya xxx Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission
