Compensation for missed flight

We missed a departure from JFK New York to manchester because of bad weather and traffic. A lot of other people in the coach also missed their flights. As a result we had to buy another flight and it cost us £600. Insurance say we have no claim. Should we just write it off to experience or is there some way of getting some of the money back?

unless you can find something in your insurance policy that you can use to change their decision I think you will need to chalk it down to experience.

Quite often insurance cover includes public transport to the airport. You need to read your policy.

I missed a flight from Berlin to Newcastle when the train I intended to get from the city to the airport didn't stop at the station I was waiting at. I got a letter from DB to explain there was a security issue that caused it not to stop, and my travel insurance paid up for the cost of the replacement flight and for the extra night's accommodation. So, as smjmx09 says, you need to read your policy carefully to see if failure of public transport is covered, and if it is then be a bit more forceful in pressing your claim.
