I have just got a new Dell laptop afew days ago my friend got the same model as well Inspiron 1503. My friend install some sofware for a cannon cammera and her cd drive E disappeared and is not longer listed in my computer. I install the same sofware on mine and my E drive has also disappeared.

Can anyone tell me how to get the drive back and what might have caused the problem ?

Can you see it in computer management?

    - Right-click on My Computer
    - Click on Manage
    - Click on Disk Management

Can you see the CD ROm drive? If so, does it have a drive letter? If it doesn't right-click on it and select Assign Drive Letter/properties. If the CD Rom drive doesn't have a drive letter assigned it will not be viewable through My Computer.

If you cant see the CD ROm at all in Disk Management, make sure you haven't ejected it or disconnected it from the USB hub. If you can't see it, manually eject the whole cd rom (laptop haves button to very easily do this) and push it firmly back in. Windows should then see it.

    Hope this helps.
