Redundancy but offered a commission only role instead?

I've been made redundant but been offered a commission only 'freelance' role.

My redundancy payment didn't go into my account with my last months wages, so I queried this...and my employer says that I may not be entitled to it as I may still technically be on the payroll...does anyone have any experience of this?

I have only been with them for 2.5 years so not much of a payment but the 5% commission only would generate approx £100p/m....I may as well cut my losses and search for a job elsewhere, surely? Or is it too late to do that? I haven't signed an agreement on the commission only job, only agreed it in principle.

Help??!!!?!!!??!

In case anyone wants to know...you are entitled to the redundancy payment and then the employer needs to pay you by invoice as a self-employed person earning commission only.
