Holiday win but I can't go :(

Last November I was lucky enough to win a holiday to the Cayman Islands, my bags are packed and we are due to fly out n Wednesday. BUT I fractured my knee at the weekend and the hospital have told me today that I need to go back tonight and have an operation tomorrow, I'll be out of action for 6 weeks minimum.
To say I'm gutted is an understatement but BA & The Alexander Hotel have been amazing - after a few tearful phone calls this morning they have agreed to extend the holiday up to the end of December this year so all being well I'm hoping we can go in November.
The terms and conditions of many holiday wins stipulate that once booked they can't be changed so I was fearing the worst but both companies have been so helpful and I'm grateful to them both, along with Sarah at Responsible Travel who I won the holiday with.
I've also even managed to get a refund of my airport parking and excursions that I booked so I feel a bit better now. Off to pack my bags for hospital

Ah sorry to hear that. How disappointing. Dumb question, can you claim on insurance if you have bought holiday insurance, that is, if it's a win?“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

Yes -you can claim for anything that you have paid for and lost....so the OP couldn't have claimed for the loss of the holiday as she hadn't paid for it but could have claimed for non refundable or cancellation costs for things like an airport hotel or car parking (after excess is deducted)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Its not a dumb question, I wondered exactly the same thing. When I purchased our holiday insurance I opted for one with minimal cancellation cover because I presumed that if I hadn't paid for it I wouldn't be able to get any cash back anyway. Really not sure how it works, but I've been very lucky that the companies involved have been so helpful.0 -
