How long is safe to steep cotton/denim in bleach

Hi all
I can't believe it - I always separate whites, but my fave white M&S cut off jeans have somehow come out of the wash with a pink tinge.
I am going to mix up 50ml bleach with 10 ltrs water and steep for a while - but how long is safe and will not weaken or damage the fibres?
Cotton/Denim/Elastate mix.
cheers
Lindsay

Hi Scottish_lass,
I wouldn't use bleach because it can damage fabric and might also lighten your jeans a bit too much in places.
I think I'd go for something like Dylon Colour Run Remover
These older threads may help:
emergency!!!!!!!!!!!
Colours run in shirt
Good luck and I hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks Pink...I have to say I have tried colour run remover on things before, and it didn't work. I did eye it up in Asda this morning, but at 2.90 for a pack I decided to try the cheaper bleach!
My mother bleaches whites all the time - with good results, but she is presently enjoying the Costa Brava sunshine and probably wouldn't appreciate a text on the beach asking how long to soak them for
Never mind, I'l go off and search the archives as you suggest, many thanks for your help

I had assumed they were blue!
Ok then go for it! Your bleach/water ratio sounds fine....leave them for 15 minutes and go back and take a look.....leave for another 10 minutes etc etc. Once they look white enough put them into the machine for another wash and ensure that the bleach is thoroughly rinsed out.
That's what I do when I've messed up whites in the wash.

Off to try it now...I thought it might be half an hour or so, although it does say on the bottle it is OK leave to soak overnight?? I didn't fancy finding big holes in the jeans so just checked here for some advice for length of time to soak from people who have already tried it!0 -
Hiya I did the same and I used Vanish and it removed it completely. I soaked them first in it then rinsed and then out washing powder and vanish in the machine and they came out cleaner than ever !!! :j :j0
