I live in a ground floor flat which is 41 xxx road, while the flat above is
41a xxx Road. The tenant who has just moved out of the flat above never really got this (despite the fact it is written on our doors), and had a lot of post addressed to 41, which I then popped through his letterbox, often writing on the envelope, please change this to 41a. He has now left, and his post quite clearly hasn't been redirected, and includes things like letters from a bank. I have emailed upstairs' landlord that this is happening and asked him if he has a forwarding address, but I've had no response. I suspect I am going to have to start opening his post, and contacting people to advise them that this isn't his address, and I have no idea where he is.

Just put "Return to Sender" on the envelope and put the letters back in the post box.

Most normal people would forward mail for a bit. Five minutes out of your life once or twice a week is not exactly taxing or onerous, is it?

Time is my most precious resource, so yes it is an issue, especially in this current house which was an ex-rental and currently receives mail for 4 old tenants and the landlady. I do not have forwarding addresses.

I have a table in the hall all wrongly addressed post gets the sticker treatment and re-posted when I need to post something.

Why people cant take responsibility for their mail is beyond me.

When i moved into my house years ago now I left the post on the side for 1 month and the person who owned the house phoned every fortnight and then came round for the post.
After that there was the odd bit of post that I just put in the bin. I wouldnt do it for more than a month which is more than enough time to redirect post and change addresses at places needed.
