cinema tickets

Hi
I went to see a film at my local odeon cinema this week (man of steel). We went on Orange Wednesday, unfortunately for the first 30 mins of the film it was poor quality. The film kept "sticking" as if it were a dirty dvd/blu ray. It did this quite frequently and was very annoying. They stopped the film for about 5 minutes and it fixed the problem (not straight away I might add). However, when I enquired about a refund we were refused. I wasn't expecting a full refund to be honest but at least a partial one.

I think I have a case under Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Odeon did not provide the service in full that we paid for (at least not satisfactorily). If they don't give me a refund, I am considering doing a chargeback on my card. Can You advise what the best position is please?
Thanks

See the cinema manager by the cold light of day, explain the problem, they may on their discretion offer you a comp ticket to another visit sometime.
  • I thought about that but a) I didn't have time to see the manager when leaving
    b) what course of action would I have if they refused?

I would email Odeon head Office and outline your disappointment. I had to do similar with a Vue cinema when a visit to see a film was spoilt somewhat by a group of badly behaved children and no cinema staff available to sort it out and they sent us some complimentary tickets as a goodwill gesture.

Not the duty manager at the time, the cinema General Manager who will likely listen to you, say 'oh dear' and hand you a comp or two. Maybe take your stubs from the bad showing with you. I'd try that before anything else.

What if they refuse? Well, if we're talking about 10 minutes of the film being spoiled, maybe ask for £1 back or just walk away and use a different cinema chain next time. Not really worth the stamps or taking to court.

I wasn't really planning on taking them to court, I was thinking of either doing a chargeback or contacting headoffice. It was well over 30 minutes of the film.
I would have been happy with a partial refund but it's a bit out of order that they never offered anything.
Bit difficult to use a different cinema chain when it's the only one less than 20 miles away (live in a rural area)

I spoke to an altogether more helpful member of staff and got 2 complimentary tickets. Considering that we only paid for out 2 tickets on Orange wednesday, they gave us 2 full price tickets that we can use any time. Not sure how much difference it made but I pointed out to them that we were regular customers. Thanks for the advice
