Driving To DisneyLand

Hi there,

I'm driving from Hampshire, Dover/Calais to DisneyLand Paris on Saturday evening. I'm a little nervous about driving in France esp. about the 'priority from the right'. On motorways does that mean that I have to give priority to those coming onto the motorway?

Any other tips greatly appreciated.

The "Priority" rule only applies to streets in built-up areas . It does not apply to motorways or to main roads. On ordinary main roads you will see a road-sign in the shape of a yellow diamond. This means that you have right of way on that road, and that anyone entering from a side road must give way.

If you go to here :-

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.france4families.com/images/End_of_You_have_priority.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.france4families.com/DrivingInFrance/Roadsigns.htm&h=100&w=100&sz=2&hl=en&start=13&um=1&tbnid=X-SpfH28Z4_vqM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=82&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfrench%2Broad%2Bsign%2Bpriority%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB%26sa%3DN

You will see some French road signs including the diamond. Also there you will see two pictures of a village sign. Be aware, these signs (for both towns and villages) are also the urban speed limit notifiers. As soon as you pass the "ordinary" sign then you are in a 50kph limit. This ends when you pass the one with the red line through it.

We drove to Disneyland Paris last year, and it is very easy to find.
The motorways were not congested, (during the day on a Monday), and didn't really get too busy until we got near to Paris.

Which way are you going? We went on the E15/A1 to Paris, and it is well signposted as you get nearer to Paris.

The distance is about 190miles (it took us less that 3 hours).

It's worth filling up when you get there (and again before you come back into England), as the price difference in fuel will pay for the tolls!

It's definitely a lot easier than driving on the M25 in rush hour!

If you take a picnic, there are loads of picnic stops on the way!

Hope you have a great time...we did!

Agreed with the last poster - we found it easy and had no difficulties.

Beware some of the toilets at the rest areas are a bit rough and smelly!!

I have been with my family to Disneyland with my family. The last time we went we took our caravan and stayed in a camp site near by. As people have said getting to and from Disneyland is very easy as it is well signposted. The only problem we had was actually driving while in the Disneyland Complex (if you know what i mean) Sometimes the roads there can be very confusing and some of the people on the gates can be unhelpful. For example, we were there had just watched the fireworks and everything and left at about 11pm we went round a roundabout (the one with dumbo on i think:rotfl: ) and accidentally went down an entrance only road. This was ok as no one was coming into Disney at the time but we got to a gate with a man sat inside a little office. We said can you just let us out as this will get us onto the main road and we are going to have to reverse all the way back down the road. He said no and was quite rude. By this time someone else had accidentally done the same thing as us so it made reversing a whole lot harder. The man still refused to let us go so we turned the engine off and said fine we will stay here then:rotfl: . He eventually let us out and we got on the right road and everything was ok. You sometimes have to be firm with some of the people there.

Hope you enjoy it and driving in France is alot easier and would you believe it more enjoyable than driving in England:rotfl:

    Thanks for your help.

To one poster - yes I believe I'm going A26/A1 way. Thanks for the support also. I just get a bit worried about roundabouts in England, never mind going the wrong way round. I'm sure I'll be be fine tho, thanks. I'm going with my disabled wife and aim to do a video showing how easy it easy in a wheelchair. Thanks again. Ed

I have driven to disneyland manytime, from Hampshire too

it's really easy to drive in France, just wathc when you come onto some of the motorways as the sliproads on are the same as the sliproads off the same as when you come onto to the M3 from the A303

The French drivers can go close up behind you, do not worry about this, it's just the way some drive and is nto a sign of agression as it is often in the UK

Write your route down with the major roads and their directions, include the distance you need to be on the road

you will be going on a toll road, go into the lane with the UK flag, take your ticket and keep it safe, then when you come to the end of the toll you will give the ticket to the person in the booth, have 20 euros for this toll (it's was 18 euros from what I recal when I did the trip in January)

when you star getting towards Paris take it easy, the roads are big and start to get a big confussing as ther are many lanes that go off in all directions but if you know your road number adn direction you will be fine, there are landmarks such as the airpost (where you go under the runway) and places like Ikea, there will be some signs for disneyland but they are not on the main road signs.

Keep heading for the A4 and you will be fine, take it slow and steady, as long as you indicate you will be ok, there is one part of the journey when you are in Paris that takes you from one motorway to another, it tells you there is a sharp corner coming, trust me, take it slow as it's sharp and had a large concrete siding.

as for rest places, there are loads, some with facilities, some just have loos, some of the loos are the holes in the ground loos

as for the priority from the right, you will not come across these rules where you are going and you will not have any problems wiht the roundabouts, it's when you get back to the uk that you may have problems ;-)

    have fun

My mother is disabled not in a wheelchair but still has some trouble walking long distances so we used the disable car park. We didnt know you would have to apply for the parker before hand and so when we got there we couldnt get into the car park. We were behind a mini bus that had a girl who was in a wheelchair and they had the same problem. We got in. If you have the same problem here is what to do:

Go to the exit of the disabled car park and get something heavy from your car and put it on the other side. The man with the mini bus used a foldable chair and this gate opens automatically and you can just go through. When you exit the disabled car park there is an information kiosk (sp) right by the entrance (you cant miss it) just go to them and explain your situation and they will give you a card & a code to open the gate next time around. Im not too sure how to get the code before hand try contacting Disney if you havent already done so if you cant get it from them this is a good way to do it.

I drive in europe alot, holidays, weekends away etc. Don't forget you also need some mandatory equipment in case of breakdown, for instance warning triangle, spare bulb kit, a high visibility vest, first aid kit etc.

If you go to Halfords or the AA you can pay over £50 for this lot. I got all mine brand new on ebay for under £20, including postage! and because I used buy it now I got points through rpoints too!!!

To find a selection of kits just search ebay for keywords:

    european motoring triangle

I went for this one because it was the cheapest
