British Gas maintenance plans

Options
If your boiler is not recent, the British Gas engineer who does your annual service will probably urge you to get a quote for a new one - even if your boiler has been trouble-free and works well.

He should in fact be able to provide a quote himself, but I've established that he gets a bonus if you agree to another engineer visiting to provide a quote.

If you don't speedily agree to the quote, you start being pestered with phone calls asking why you haven't ordered a new boiler.

    He may do, the government have made it compulsory to make you aware of any efficiency upgrades available when an energy business representative enters your home.

    It is very unlikely he would have the first clue how to quote you for a replacement, as a service and breakdown engineer he may well have never installed a boiler in his life.

    It is common practice for people to slag off BG on here. BG is no longer a nationalized industry. They are an independent private business which has very right to advertise and promotes itself.

    Now then..when it comes to the matter of modern higher tech condensing boilers, i would strongly advise anyone to;

    a) have it fitted by a competent engineer to the manufacturers spec and with the right registrations,guarantees and benchmarks in place

    b) When its standard warranty expires, i would suggest you buy a BG maintenance product if only just for the boiler

    Why do i say this?

    Because there are too many bodgers around and a GSR badge doesnt make you competent or good at your job.

    Now neither does being a BG employee but you have bought into the support of a major brand and thats what matters.

    If you dont have a contract then just try ringing round to get your boiler fixed. Think its easy? Not always..

    Example...an associate had a worcester non condensing combi. t died. I told him the fan was goosed. He rang three different indies..non turned up. He had no heat for 3 days then someone turned up,replaced fan,paid,done. A couple of days later..boiler off again and making orrible noises. I told him expansion vessel goosed. Noted also that previous GSR had lost one of the screws from combustion chamber door so suction and noise when boiler on.

    Now other contracts are cheaper eg homeserve but they are poor.

    BG..pay your boiler only contract and if there are issues,you can ring,get it fixed at no further very expensive outlay.
    Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
