Keep it or exchange it?

Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this has been covered before, but I would appreciate your view on this:
I have a BMW 318 CI coupe (2002), which I bought second hand with a mileage of 25000 at a cost of £14750. Now the car has 48500K on it.

My question is, which way is more cost effective keeping the car until it starts breaking down or exchange it with second hand one?

BMW dealers keep phoning me with offers, and I ma really confused, as I know I will lose about £3000-4000 by exchanging it to another BMW. Or do you advice me to keep it, as I they say that BMW cars go forever.

Cheers.
M

If you are tempted with a newer BMW, sell your Coupe first and you will be in a much stronger bargaining position with the BMW dealers. Your car is probably worth £8 - £8.5K as a part exchange, you may get slightly more as a private sale.

Golden rule of car buying - more you change, more you lose money!

Unless your car breaks down beyond economical repair, keep your car and you'll save lot of money.

    Thank you for the reply.

I am not tempted to sell it I was just wondering if it would make more sense to exchange it with a newer BMW with less possibilty of break down and problems. Or keeping it as long as possible avoiding the loss of about £5000-£6000 as probably I wont spend this reatively big sum of money should the car have problems say in the coming 3-4 years.
    What do you think?

    Cheers.

I sold my 323Ci in January with 150,000 miles on the clock! At about 130,000 little things started to fail and it stopped being cost effective. Yours has got LOADS of life left in i; you've barely broken it in!

What's the point in paying for a car that lasts forever and then selling it before you're ready?

I'm sure it will serve you well for a good time yet! After much shopping around I came full circle and I bought another BMW to replace mine.

    I hope you're very happy together :)
