Default registered on credit file by Southern Water after 5 years!!!

I recently had an alert to check my credit file....to find an entry made by Southern Water for a default registered in March this year.....this is for property I moved out of in 2006 but was empty until I sold it in 2009. On advice I called them they told me the debt was from 2006 and defaulted in July 2007. I never acknowledged the the debt, I contacted experian who agreed that this did not reflect my current financial situation and put their standard addition to my credit file whilst writing to them. Within 3 days Experian replied stating Southern Water stated they were correct and if I needed to take it further I need to contact Southern Water direct.
Can anyone give me advice on what to do next...I thought I'd cleared everything and had 2 mortgages in this time...the end of the discount on this mortgage is December, this has really knocked my credit score....
thanks...
Michelle

Is the "default date" listed as July 2007 then? If so, then the default will disappear completely from your report next month no matter what you do.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
