Anyone used Chalk Paint?

Bought a pine IKEA free standing unit for my kitchen at auction. Thought it would look good painted & originally thought of using eggshell paint but then read about Chalk Paint and really like the sound of it. Has anyone experience of using it? would be really interested in opinion of it. Sounds almost too good to be true.

I have used chalk paint before on a kitchen cupboard, no problems, it worked at treat, ended up just like a normal blackboard, where we could all leave messages etc. go for it

You need to visit the Shabby Chic thread on the Old Style board. It's full of people doing makeovers on old furniture using chalk paint. There is lots of advice and plenty of before/after photos that will reassure you.

ps - it's a really long thread so you might just want to do a search within it for chalk paint!

I make my own chalk paint with emulsion and plaster of paris, just search the web and there are lots of recipes and tips. I then wax over it. The good thing about chalk paint it sticks really well to almost anything so two coats and the furniture is well covered. Only mix up as much as you need as it thickens up.

Seems you need to give approx.3 coats of soft wax. It's only going to be used as display cabinet so not getting a lot of heavy wear.
