cheques how long to pay in?

Hi Does anyone know how long cheques are valid to pay into a bank account?
I know there is a time limit and have in my head 6 months but cannot find anywhere to check this. Thanks.

Its usually 6 months unless otherwise stated (some companies may stop a cheque if not presented within a certain window for example).

However, some will cash older cheques, so it may be worthwhile presenting it to the bank anyway, unless its years old.

Some cheques state they are valid for XX months. I recall HMRC cheques were valid for a year (this was many moons ago thoigh!).
