Hotel strike - accommodation cancelled

We've booked a holiday last year, departing on 24 July to fuerteventura and have just received a notification that the resort has announced an indefinite strike. The travel agent told us they will find us alternative accommodation, but what are our rights? Do we have to accept a different location e.g. we've booked in the south and def don't want to go up north. Any help please? Not happy, as we've only got just over 3 weeks to sort something :-(

Hotel group Stella Canaris in Jandia, Fuerteventura have announced an indefinite strike in July. Unfortunately that's when and where our holiday is booked

I wonder when the strike starts, if it's July 1st there are lots of vested interests and it could be over by teatime. I think I'd try to find out more (not through travel agent) and play for time until I knew just what WAS happening or not.
Obviously if a place is shut there is no point going.

Right, found out that staff going on strike due to not having been paid for : month and the complex is in a bad financial situation. All accommodation bookings have been cancelled. I just had a look and trying to find something equivalent to what we booked would be a lot dearer due to only having 3 weeks left before we go. Could anybody tell me if we have to pay the extra ourselves or is there anything we could do, apart from canceling the whole holiday or booking into a 1 star B&B

what has your travel agent offered you?

and what outcome would you prefer?

I have to say, I have some sympathy with your travel agent right now (and its not often I say that) - its clearly circumstances beyond their control, and they have informed you.

Would you rather cancel the whole holiday and not go anywhere?

Is there anything in your travel insurance policy which would cover this?
