Bathroom suites in Ebay are they safe to purchase?

HI, folks,
just wondering if it is safe to buy bathroom suites in ebay. I saw an exactly same product in ebay and plumbworld but ebay's one is £100 cheaper price and I am wondering why?

I never buy anything in Ebay that's why I am a bit concern? Would you recommend to buy in Ebay?

thanks and looking forward to your help.

    Is collection an option?

That way you'll see what state they're in before you part with anything...
    The money, Dave...
  • I would be careful. My sister bought a toilet off there and when it arrived it was smashed to bits and she had no end of grief trying to get a refund. Paypal and ebay are not at all helpful when things go wrong!

    Hi Mrsbudget

You are right to be concerned. I too bought a bathroom suite along with gas hob and extracter hood from ebay. My advice would be to buy from an online ebay shop, contact them to build a rapport and ask how to deal with items that are damaged or not up to spec. This, I found, helped me when the bathroom suite I bought had a deformed toilet which was rapidly replaced. Also check to see if they will cover the costs of replacements if they need to be replaced.

I wouldn't buy anything this big on ebay unless, as others have said, I could inspect and collect it. Even then, you need to add your petrol costs into the equation.

Better by far (if a good deal is what you're after) to check out someone like Screwfix who do a reasonable quality/price/delivery deal.

If it arrives broken or in some other way not at all suitable, I think you will find dealing with a national supplier with a good reputation to protect well worth the possible £100 saving. Only my opinion but hope it helps.

I'd also rather pay the extra 100 and use a reputable firm for something as major as a bathroom suite. I do use ebay, but not for that kind of thing. I'd want to be able to resolve any issues easily.
Quite a lot of ebay shops get 'shop seconds', end-of-line or b-grade stock. Sure, could be a bargain, but...

I got my showerbath suite off eBay and also a corner shower cubicle for a friend (different suppliers). Both excellent, very good quality, packaged well and delivered quickly. Saved us a fortune between us!

Why don't the people with good experiences off e bay identify the sellers?

We have not bought a bathroom via e bay but have bought a spiral staircase. It was second hand but of a very contemporary design using 1.5 inch marine ply and steel, and in good condition. It is absolutely fantastic. It cost us £500 and we had to collect it. Similar styles go for more than £2k new. I think it is the only item the seller ever sold.

The seller had gone to great lengths to make sure it was removed carefully during his renovation, and all the bits were present. They were all neatly bagged up and ready for us to load into the van!

I had every opportunity to inspect it, count the bits and approve it.

We have now fitted it but had to modify it for our application by shortening the centre pole to eliminate a tread as our ceiling is lower than theirs was. In addition we had to shorten the hand rail.
