IBM Thinkpad R30 what can I do with it?

Hi I have an IBM Thinkpad R30 in great working order, but really slow.

At one time I could watch dvds on it but now it won't play them without buffering.

I can't decide if it's useful to keep or, if it's just clutter.

Any thoughts?

Once you've done that, use Media Player Classic-Home Cinema to play your media.

Do you have the IBM Windows XP Recovery disc?

From where do you keep getting these old machines? :)

Missing the meaning of your post. What have holidays to do with obtaining old PCs and laptops??

    HA ha !

    I am a hoarder!
A friend was throwing it out.... I thought that it could have some use or value. I bought a 2nd one at a carboot sale for £3. Works great but wanted it for the RAM... unfortunately the RAM is not interchangeable.

I don't have the IBM recovery disc, unfortunately

Any XP OEM disc can work (find one for the same version of Windows). Worth reloading then optimising it if you plan on using it.

Is it running Windows 2000 or Windows XP now?

You can have the recovery disc and pop some RAM(PC 133: Perhaps a fiver for 512MB from Hong Kong) in, but will you actually use the machine? Perhaps you can donate it at least if not.

Agreed - Linux mint could be an answer.

I have just installed on an old machine with only 1mb of ram and a very small hard drive. It flies along.
