Cnat get router working on Virgin Media

Ive just had virgin media cable broad band installed. It works fine when I have the modem connected directly to the PC, but when I plug it into the wireless router (Netgear WGR614) I cant get the ISP to release an IP address to it.

Ive tried spoofing the MAC address of the laptop I used to set up the connection, and Ive got the DNS servers from tech support. Nothing seems to work.


One quick question (to make sure Im not stupid): would my username be just "username" or "username"@virginmedia.co.uk?

you shouldnt need to enter any usernames normally that is on a cable connection.

with cable you need to have a pc connected via cable to the modem or set top box, also connect your router to the PC and configure it you then spoof your mac address to the router so that the cable modem/STB thinks that the router is the pc.

connect the pc to the router, router to the modem/STB and reboot the router then the modem/STB the modem/STB then issues the IP address to the router thinking it is the PC.
