More Scammers/Cold Callers

So, some Indian bird calls me, maybe wasn't Indian but had a broad Indian accent as far as my ears could tell, and wants to go through all my credit cards, how much I owed, how much I repaid, and about the new scheme whereby I could dump all my debts.....just like that..... a hahaha.

I made up some fiction about my 5 or 6 cards, owed 10-15 grand blah blah blah. She then passes me onto a rather dopey sounding English guy, who confirmed the above.

I then took control of the conversation with him, asking what company he was calling from - Debt Plan Direct he said, and when I gave an address in Birmingham that I'd googled, he confirmed it - and his name - Mark Davis. I asked him how long he'd worked there - 2 days - and how well he had done in the two days. He mumbled.

I asked if he was allowed to cold call me, and he said he hadn't as the Indians did the cold calling, and passed hot leads like me onto him. I then asked if he had heard of the Telephone Preference Service, and all of a sudden he sprung into life......his name wasn't Mark Davis, he didn't work for Debt Plan Direct, he was self employed, he was paid my people like me who sends him money and he obviously didn't pass it (all) onto the credit card companies.

He then said goodbye and put the phone down, and I reported him to the TPS. 1471 came up with 0222444991199, which google lists other sites reporting this number as a scammer.

Apologies to the real Debt Plan Direct if he made up working for them.....however if the call did come from you, please take me of your list of potential marks.

PS Oh yeah......originally he asked for Mrs Froggitt, and I said "speaking" in the gruffest voice I had!!!

Listen boyo, that is an invalid phone number, so your complaint to the TPS will fail at the first hurdle. :rotfl:

As I tell my guys here, SWSWSWN

So he has a Consumer Credit Licence then, does he?

I doubt he even had a driving license, except for one driving those mopeds with a lawnmower engine and no gears.

Maybe the Government should set up a cold calling department, using prisoners or unemployed as staff, and use the income paid by companies like Debt Plan Direct to pay off the deficit.

Edit: He's also been hit with a couple of fines totalling £225,000 for allegedly failing to comply with the terms of the TPS

He plans to appeal against the fines, not apparantly because he denies the offences, but rather that the fines were not “the appropriate course of action”.
