Tablet from Argos, was present, have receipt, now faulty.

I got a CNM 10.1 tablet as a present from my friend who has now emigrated to NZ.

gave me the receipt too.

Now, just over 6 weeks old the touch screen has packed up.

so what can I expect from Argos as I am not the buyer

I'm not interested in a refund, I just want a replacement, or a gift card if they don't have one in stock so I can visit another Argos and get one.

as you have the receipt, you have proof of purchase, so you should be entitled to at least a repair, or replacement.

it'll be up to argos which they do, but either way, they should get you a working tablet as it'll still be under warranty

You have no legal statutory right to a remedy as the contract is between the retailer and your friend, I would imagine they will honour the warranty.

It's unlikely they will bother questioning who actually purchased it if you have the receipt.

Except that if they offer a refund it'll be by the same method as payment. If the friend used a card then Argos will want to refund to that card, otherwise they'll likely offer a gift card refund.

(If the tablet is still the same price - or cheaper - and they have stock, then they'll probably replace. It is very unlikely that they'll repair).
