Stolen handbag

Hi,

I'm on holidays in Spain and today someone broke into my car and stole my handbag (I was in the beach so I left the handbag hidden in the boot).

I had about 20 eur cash, a gift card from a shopping center (about 60€ on it), mobile and documentation.

I have travel insurance with nationwide, but never done a claim before in my life. Am I likely to get any compensation? Is it important that I ring now or can it wait? (I don't have my policy number here)

I don't have any proof that I had these items (only the police report, and I forgot to mention the gift card as I was very distressed when giving the statement..).

Anyone can tell me what I can/can't claim? (if anything..)

Many thanks

Have you informed the local police ?
Did you travel with a company like Thomas Cook or did you book privately ?

Yes, as I said I got a police report (it mentions everything except the gift card).

I travel privately, I own a house in Spain. The keys were also stolen and I'll need to replace all the locks as my address was on my ID.

How much are these things worth?

Do you have Personal Possessions cover on your Home insurance?

Often, though not always, with travel insurance cover for personal possessions will also call on any other insurances that cover the loss and if your home insurance has PP you would lose your no claims discount etc for that and unless the items were particularly valuable it may not be worth claiming.
