Landlords and credit checks

Hi there,

I don't know if anyone can help or advise on this,
I've just googled endlessly what landlords can see and the only things i find for experian is small businesses, i have sent a couple of emails to experian to see if they can shed some light on my issues.

My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Stafford in August (of this year) so we can further our education- he will be going to the uni and me the college. We currently go to college in crewe which from north wales isn't sensible and costs a fortune. ANYWAY

My boyfriend and his mum, recently haven't been seeing as much eye-to-eye as they used to do, in which I mean she's opened credit accounts in his name with out his permission, she has a credit card also in his name which we can only use with her permisson (plus she's signed the back of it) *facepalm* i've been told from several people what she is doing can be considered as "fraud"... Anyway, a few months ago she pulled a stunt where we was temporarily kicked out, we looked for a place which was cheap and affordable but she let us come back.

My boyfriend, alittle over 6 months ago opened an experian account to see if him knowing what his mum was doing would deter her from spending, which failed on the epic scale. He still has experian and he still checks it regularly to see where he stands with his credit.

His mum, also promised a few months back that she would get the credit accounts dealt with and paid off for before we moved, so that the credit card and ONE account would be ours, however it seems that we clear ONE account from the vast pile and another account gets a missed payment. The account we have the most problems is "Premier Man" who gave her a limit of £2 and slapped on a load of interest, for every £100 we paid off around £70 made it onto the account to pay it off. Now we're close to moving and i'm worried that his mums actions are going to cost us where we live, we have an idea of where we would like to live, but every time we suggest a flat it's turned down by his parents before we can view it, because they see it as they're paying the first months rent and deposit so they don't want it to cost loads, but also because they don't want us to struggle.

Where credit checks come to play in this is, i know it's getting sooner and sooner to when we move, I also know that my credit is perfectly clean in comparisson my boyfriend's is a few points from reaching being really bad. I've tried to find out what landlords/ agancies can see when they do a credit check, but again nothing much answers my questions, i've read that honesty is the best policy on another forum post >< and that it's like a bank check which doesn't answer what people can see in a credit check, then i'm contemplating whether housing benefit would be an option as i'm on income support, BUT then with my boyfriend going to uni he is elegable for ALF (it's like a student grant to help with utility bills and rent) >< I really don't know what my options are and what landlords can see in credit checks

:eek:HELP!!!!

I can't help you with regards to the credit checks and what LL/LA's see but here's some advice.....

Get your bf to close all the credit card accounts that are in his name that his mum is using.

What she is doing is fraud and will only affect your boyfriend's credit rating.

This could mean you will not pass credit checks for renting, mobile phone contracts and even for a BT landline!!!

ETA: I'm actually really shocked by his mother's behaviour. It is not to protect you and look after you it is to control.
    I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.
