Istanbul Refunds

I couldn't find a thread with a similar title, hence started new one here:

Does anyone know the status of claiming refunds with ABTA/non ABTA travel agents (mine was the former).

Essentially, I was in Istanbul for a conference and left early as to get there would have meant travelling through the Taksim Square area.

But regardless, the FCO advice was against all travel there, and being there when the whole thing had just started and not knowing how much it was going to flare up (more) I left.

Would I be entitled go claim the difference between my single Istanbul back home flight against the price for the return flights?

Are you talking about claiming from the travel agent? Why should he/she be obliged to cover the difference?

FCO advice has never been against 'all travel' only to be cautious. Taksim Sq is not somewhere on the tourist beat, if you chose to leave early, did you check with the organisers of the conference to see if they could assist? Most conferences have a relationship with one airline, possibly Turkish Airlines in this case, who offer reduced fares and might have been able to help. However if you just decided to leave of your own volition, I very much doubt you have any claim against anyone
