Cancelling new credit card

I have recently been accepted for a new Barclaycard but have decided I don't actually need it anymore. It is a platinum card with no annual fee. Should I cancel it as soon as it arrives or can I activate it but not use it? If I cancel it do I need to call up or do I simply not activate it in the first place? I only have one other credit card that is at about 50% credit limit.
