Hi All,
been through loads of travel insurance quotes for our family holiday and as my partner suffered last year with severe back pain from a trapped nerve and was hospitalised for a week, im consious that i need to add this in case it flares up whilst we are away.
However, my query is, i've found that it would be cheaper to get him a seperate policy than get a family policy that includes his condition. Is there any reason we cant have a single policy for him and a family one for me and the kids?
im really confused, so if its a really dumb question, i apologise! any help is gratefully received as i need to sort the insurance out asap!

The problem of separate policies may be that you cannot declare his medical conditions on your policy (as he isnt named on it) and so if he cannot travel due to the pre-existing condition then his policy covers his costs but your policy decline the claim because of it being a pre-existing condition.
There is a post on here just a couple of days ago where someone's partner died before travelling and because they had separate policies and they hadnt declared the partners medical conditions on both policies only one paid out.
If you can find a travel policy where you can declare uninsured party's pre existing conditions then that would resolve that problem but then that would likely bump up the premium and eliminate the saving.0 -
Try Aviva, have just got single trip for couple, husband (who has lots of pre-existing medical conditions), declared all of his and a few of mine, much cheaper than any other quote, even those who claim to cover difficult medical conditions. You must get a quote as a whole family or you will have difficulty if one of you becomes ill or injured and remember to carry your ehic cards as well. Good luck0
