Long-lasting paint for galvanised steel drainpipes

Can anyone recommend a good, long-lasting white paint suitable for galvanised steel drainpipes? Also, is a primer required where the paint has flaked off back to the bare metal?

Edit: they are 65 years old, galvanised steel is still in perfect condition but the painting has been neglected and has flaked badly.

Galv requires the right primer. It used to be calcium plumbate, but it must be something different now. Once you have the right primer on, an ordinary good quality paint of the right colour is required.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • ValHaller is right about the old Calcium Plumbate - probably now there is a product from Zinsser - they seem to have every type of specialised paint going

How can you tell? I'm thinking galvanised steel because it's quite thin and where the paint has flaked off it is a dull grey colour. It dates from the late 1940s if that is any clue.
